Meningococcal Disease

Meningococcal disease is caused by the bacteria Neisseria meningitidis, has potential to cause significant physical impairments.

Meningitis, characterised by inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord, can lead to profound neurological consequences and amputation.

This inflammation may result in brain damage, leading to physical impairments such as paralysis or muscle weakness. The inflammation can also affect the spinal cord, potentially causing loss of sensation or motor function in various parts of the body.
