Each person is unique, and each disability affects each person differently. The information in this section is a very simple overview of some common disabilities. It is aimed to provide a starting point for more research. Use the assessment tools to learn as much as you can about the individual. The person with the disability and/or their caregiver will understand their abilities better than anyone else.

Nystagmus

Nystagmus is an involuntary and repetitive movement of the eyes, characterised by rapid, oscillatory movements that may occur horizontally, vertically, or in a circular motion.

This condition can significantly affect vision, causing reduced visual acuity, depth perception, and visual stability, particularly during tasks requiring sustained fixation, such as reading or driving.

Nystagmus can occur as a primary disorder or secondary to other underlying conditions, including congenital disorders, neurological diseases, and visual impairments such as cataracts, glaucoma, and albinism.
