Each person is unique, and each disability affects each person differently. The information in this section is a very simple overview of some common disabilities. It is aimed to provide a starting point for more research. Use the assessment tools to learn as much as you can about the individual. The person with the disability and/or their caregiver will understand their abilities better than anyone else.

Myopia

Myopia, commonly known as nearsightedness, is a refractive error that occurs when the eyeball is too long or the cornea is excessively curved. As a result, light entering the eye is not focused correctly onto the retina, causing distant objects to appear blurred while nearby objects remain clear.

Myopia is a common condition, affecting millions of people worldwide, and its prevalence is increasing, particularly in urban areas with high levels of near work and limited outdoor activity. While myopia can usually be corrected with eyeglasses, contact lenses, or refractive surgery, severe cases may increase the risk of complications such as retinal detachment, myopic maculopathy, and glaucoma.
