Getting Stoked on Telemark. Telemark skiing is a distinct and dynamic style of skiing defined by its “loose heel” technique. Unlike alpine skiing, where the boot is fully secured to the ski, telemark bindings leave the heel free, similar to cross-country skiing. This increased range of motion enhances manoeuvrability, particularly on varied terrain, and offers a unique blend of power, fluidity, and grace.

The Role of the Instructor

Ski instructors must create a clear picture of the ideal outcome for their students. They must provide feedback in an understandable way and make decisions on how to adapt and develop lessons. Recognising where students are in the learning process and guiding them through their development is essential.

An effective ski instructor combines:

9
A passion for the sport and the mountain environment.
9
A disciplined approach to developing exceptional communication skills.
9
The responsibility of influencing the behaviour, actions, and beliefs of individuals and groups.

Since learning skiing is both a physical and emotional experience, instructors must identify what motivates each student and adapt their approach accordingly.
