Adaptive Progressions

For most standup skiing and riding just use the same steps you use in your other lessons adapting them to the person, their learning and the conditions as you normally do.

However...

If someone is using a mono-ski or stand-up skiing but unable to make a wedge, then the wedge-less progression comes in handy. If they’re using a bi-ski, the focus changes to lateral movements. This is introduced in the next topic.

3 key Concepts in Adaptive Teaching

  1. We teach adaptive disciplines using the same techniques as we teach all snowsports disciplines.
  2. The same forces need to be applied to equipment that slides on snow in order to initiate, control, and complete a turn.
  3. Aim towards independence for the student.
