Links, Tethers and Cants

Other additional equipment include…

Are used on skis when someone doesn’t have independent leg movement to allow for rotational movements from the hip and also when someone doesn’t have the strength to stop their skis from separating. On a board they can be used to attach tethers.

Tethers can be used for emergency speed control when someone is learning, and to assist with learning steering for standup skiing and riding and with bi-skis. Note: Tethers are only used on a mono ski when there is not enough room for turn shape to control speed as tension on the tether will prevent turn completion.

These are used to assist in keeping the ski/board flat on the snow when the guest is in comfortable balanced position. Cants fill the space rather than changing a person’s stance. In a sit ski this may be padding filling in space between a buttock and the seat, for someone with spasticity it may under one side of a foot-bed, or for someone using a walking prosthetic it may go under the heel to fill in the space created by “ankle” flexion.
