To encourage knowledge, understanding and continual learning!

As a snowboarder or freeskier, do you find yourself watching one particular aspect of snowboarding more than the rest? Maybe you watch the Freeride World Tour religiously, or you subscribe to Yawgoons’ series? Maybe you follow the every accolade of one specific freeskier or snowboarder, or a sub-culture that particularly attracts you.

We all have a tendency to engage with the parts of freeskiing and snowboarding that we resonate with, or the styles of freeskiing/snowboarding that inspire us the most.

Supporting this in your athletes is no-doubt positive, but encouraging them to engage in other aspects of the sport, and other sub-cultures, is highly beneficial to their development as a snowboarder.

Watch the video below and see if what you can take away from it as a freeskier/snowboarder…

To help foster the desire in your athletes to learn from all aspects of freeskiing and snowboarding, consider the following:

  1. Show an appreciation for all snow sport disciplines and riding styles.
  2. Utilise different riding styles in your daily warm-up or cool down routine.
  3. Keep a watchful eye on what other athletes of the same age are doing in snowboarding.
  4. Talk about the positives of different freeski and snowboard disciplines and styles, rather than the negatives.
  5. Send them videos of your favourite aspects of snowboarding/freeskiing and encourage them to share their own with you and the other athletes.
